Wesley H. Avery

Mr. Avery received his B.A., with highest honors in Economics from the University of California, Davis in 1980, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. He received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1984 and his J.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1991 with an emphasis in commercial law and bankruptcy.

Admitted to California Bar in 1991. Member of the California State Bar and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, all Federal District Courts of California and the California Supreme Court. He is a member of the Financial Lawyers conference, the Harvard Club of Southern California, the Los Angeles County Bar, and the Los Angeles Bankruptcy Forum. Mr. Avery is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Finance, Real Estate and Insurance of the California State University at Northridge.

Mr. Avery was Chairman of the California State Bar Bankruptcy Law Advisory Commission (2004-2005). He is the author of articles that have been featured in more than 25 legal publications, including Trial Lawyer and California Lawyer. Mr. Avery was the co-author of the 2003 Collier Handbook for Trustees and Debtors in Possession and 2003 Collier Handbook For Creditors’ Committees. Reported cases include In re Lahijani, 325 B.R. 282, 44 BCD 247;In re Plitt Amusement Co., 233 B.R. 837; DRG v. Chopstix Dim Sum Café, 30 Cal.App.4th 54.

The focus of his practice is the liquidation of real property and other assets held by insolvent businesses. He is certified as a specialist in Bankruptcy Law by the State Bar of California and by the American Board of Certification which is recognized by the American Bar Association.
